Around Kaziranga / by David Johnstone

JAUNTS IN AND AROUND DERGAON

As well as Kaziranga, I filled my time with little excursions along with the usual laundry/blog/relaxing time-outs. Dergoan, situated around 45km east from the park, proved a nice place to stay.

My guesthouse felt like a home-from-home and the people were warm and very welcoming, providing me with delicious, organic vegetarian food and a good clean room. Though more expensive and a little far from the park, I enjoyed my time there and I’ll take away fond memories.

Visits to an orchid park, a women’s sanctuary providing craft opportunities for poorly educated villagers, a 7th century temple full of monkeys and an impromptu tea factory tour (which I’ll expand on later) were all enjoyable little trips.
